Snapshots

Here are some little bits of life lately:

**I thrifted this cute spectacle holder to display my favorite BonLook glasses.
**Hope had her first softball game this week.  Though she's not totally clear on all the rules yet, she brought her A-game and even stole a couple of bases.  Ha!
**My newest Blythe doll getting some attention.
**We've been moving stuff around in our bedroom so Johnny could set his drums up.  I was practicing bouncing my external flash off the walls and ceiling for this photo-- it's good to keep sharp on that kind of stuff.

**Porch days are here again.  I love watching the rain under a blanket here.
**Johnny at the ballpark.  I rarely get candid photos of him before he notices the camera and squirms, so I appreciate in-the-moment pictures like this.

Band Trips and Birthdays

Johnny and I (and the rest of our band) had the pleasure of traveling out of town for shows on Wednesday and Thursday last week.  Wednesday also happened to be our our best friend/guitar man's birthday, so we tried to make the absolute most of it.  We celebrated over brunch, rode go-carts, and did all the touristy things we had time for in our old town.  Visiting Lake of the Ozarks is so much more enjoyable for us than living there ever was!

I sure do love these people and I'm so thankful to have all of them in my life (even though our sweet bass gal, Lauren, somehow didn't make it into any of these photos)!  Happy Wednesday, friends!

Weekly Wears: Patchwork Dreams

I have to admit, I have been eyeballing this dress for some time now.  I've been very into maxi and midi dresses lately.  They are a nice change of pace from my normal routine of mini dresses and thigh socks for spring.  Not that I don't love that look, but sometimes it's nice to mix it up.  The thought of putting a shoulder to toes patchwork print on my body seemed like it could be disastrous, but I ended up loving this dress as soon as I put it on.  It's flowy and colorful and one of my new favorites! Sometimes you don't know what you'll like until you take a little chance!

Life Lately

Lately, life in the Shelton home has included lots of friend time, parties, outdoor excursions, library trips, movies, and treat days.  Right now I'm soaking up this time before it gets truly hot here in MO (old house problems) and remembering to step back and really enjoy this life we have... especially when I feel bogged down by work or life stress.

Here's to a solid Monday... and maybe a cocktail at the end of the day.  ;)

Piano Recital

Last night our family got a little dressed up and headed to Hope's piano recital.  Guys.  I'm constantly amazed by this girl.  Not only is she a beauty (I mean, look at that smile and that hair!), but she is smart AND talented AND sweet.  She's definitely on my list of top 5 favorite humans, which I guess is how it's supposed to be.  We were so proud as she breathed through her nerves and played her songs beautifully.  I don't have many photos of the performance because I was afraid of distracting with my camera clicks, but all the kids did a great job!  We definitely adore our piano teacher.

May Garden

I thought it would be fun to share photos of what's happening in my garden so far this season!  That way, when I share pictures later in the year, you have a point of reference.  I always love looking back at the beginning pictures as the season progresses.

This is the first year I've ever attempted broccoli, and so far it's very exciting!  I have little broccoli babies peeking through.  Our strawberries are on their third year, so they are already yielding fruit for us.  I let my cilantro just grow at the end of last season and it sprouted flowers which turned into seeds!  I plucked the seeds from the plants this spring and the rain and sunshine did the rest of the work for me.  The garlic I planted last year and had no luck at all, but this year it's doing something (need to do more research on garlic b/c I know nothing) and that's cool.


Here's a wider shot of one of my garden boxes.  I always appreciate seeing posts from people with smaller gardening spaces because that's what I'm dealing with.  Johnny added my third box last year because I was running out of space, and it's been nice being able to spread some things out.  I'm still moving plants around a bit, but for now this is what it looks like.  In the back I have garlic, tomatoes, green bell peppers x 2.  That baby in the front is a banana pepper guy, but he might be moving next to my jalepeño plant because those strawberries are trying to take over.  I also planted a blackberry bush about 3 years ago and it looks like we are going to have a great deal of blackberries this year!  Hope and Johnny are most excited about this!


My pole beans, sugar snap peas, sweet peas, and cucumbers are all sprouting from seeds.  I had a bit of trouble with my peas last year, so they are getting extra love and attention right now.  Also, I typically plant herbs in the bed with the roses, so I need to go shopping and get on that.  Right now the only thing I have is sweet basil and it's doing really well.

Okay, that's what my garden looks like in May!  You KNOW I will have updates as the season moves on because it's my favorite warm weather hobby!  Happy Thursday, friends!
