Earlier this year I professed my love for my curling wand. I used it for quite a long time... until enough was enough and I had to give it up. I had a terrible issue with burning my wrist over and over. It wasn't any flaw in the wand itself, just a problem with my own clumsiness. Anyway, instead of going back to a traditional curling iron, I decided to try out this method of curling your hair with a straightener.
I like the natural waves this method creates. As you can see, I use a GHD straightener and I love it. It has rounded edges so there are no creases in your hair while you're running it through for curls and it heats up really fast. Here's an example of the finished product:
Anyway, this is my current routine for curling my hair. What kind of curling iron/wand/straightener do you prefer? No heat curls are always a great alternative. I'm going to try curling my hair like this next! xo.
Your curls look great from using a straightener! I can't wait to try this. Plus, I love the color of that straightener.
ReplyDeleteLove these waves! Do you have any issues with the straightener pulling hair out when you use it? Mine currently does it and it drives me crazy!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a wand or a straightener, but I'm tempted to grab a straightener because it always looks so much simpler to curl your hair with! Or, you know, straighten it.

I've tried so many times to curl my hair with my straightener and I can never seem to get it quite right. I'll have to try out that method sometime!
ReplyDeleteAlways love your curls, girl. Just curious if you use any heat protector or anything to protect your hair? If I curl my hair more than 1 time a week it completely dries out. Any tips for that?
ReplyDeleteI've been curling my hair with a flat iron for a few years, but our hair could totally be different! I only wash my hair about twice a week and if I knew I would be curling my hair (I have a pixie now) I would let it air dry the night before curling or whenever I had time. I always use leave-in conditioner and moroccan oil too and those work wonders.
DeletePretty waves! That's my favorite hairstyle to do on my fine, stick-straight hair. The best flat iron I've used for waving on myself and clients is the FHI Heat "Platform PLUS". It's pretty awesome.

Girls, I've been using a straightener to curl my hair for years. A good tip to keep your curls from grabbing or sticking is making sure you keep it nice and clean! This also prevents weird lines and creases in your curls and allows your hair to slide freely through it. Also, a straightener like the one above (with round edges) is ideal! :)
ReplyDeleteCute! Loving the waves

Your waves look fantastic! My hair is currently too short to curl, cant wait till it is a bit longer and I can try out GHD waves!
ReplyDeleteI have always tried the curling with a straightener idea but fail every time!! I love that this straightener is rounded though - I'm going to check it out :)
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing Katie...I'm feeling you with the burned wrist haha xx

ReplyDeleteIf you have the time and don't mind looking silly, try the old fashioned way of wrapping damp hair around rags in small sections, tie each rag in a loose knot or bow and sleep on it. In the morning when your hair is dry, unwrap to find curls that will beat Orphan Annie!
ReplyDeleteI've been using my flat iron to curl my hair for years and it's the best! My hair has never, ever held curl with any other type of styling tool. Now the curls last for a couple days and it's awesome.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! -Hanna Lei
ReplyDeleteI would love to curl my hair with my iron, but it doesn't work the same with a 2 inch iron. My 1 inch fizzled out on me.. but hey, it lasted for about seven years :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks wonderful! I can never make myself take the time to curl mine, though that's how I prefer it.

I love your curls. I personally haven't tried anything but a curling iron. It was a long time ago and I didn't like it. Takes too long! I straighten my hair with a straightening iron once in a while, never used it for curls. I really want to try the wand though, I don't know why but I feel as though it would be much faster and easier! What do you think? (minus the wrist burning).

I wish I could get to grips with using my straighteners as curlers!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog and absolutely love it! You have such a great style and I can't wait for more posts! Your hair looks amazing - I'm growing mine out atm and have been loving my curling iron (Revlon Ionic). Maybe I'll give this a try?
