Disposable Camera Challenge // Roll 1

It was actually one month ago today when I originally posted my Disposable Camera Challenge!  I had a really good time shooting and storing pictures for a month.  After the first week, the newness wore off a little and I would have to remind myself about the little camera hiding in my purse.  After a couple of weeks I was used to having it there so it became second nature to pull it out when I wanted to capture a clip of something special or happy.  Finally, when I got down to my last 5 or so pictures, it started driving me a little crazy.  I'm the kind of person who goes nutty waiting for surprises, so when I started getting close to the end I felt like Katie on Christmas morning.  Here are some of my favorites:

Things I learned while shooting with the disposable:

*This camera needs a LOT of light without a flash.  I definitely lost some pictures because I didn't know just how much light was required.  To give a reference, the photo of me and the girls on the couch was taken in my living room at the brightest point of the day.
*I really enjoyed snapping pics of everyday things as well as grabbing one special moment from an outing or occasion.  A lot of the photos above look like regular old photos but give me all the sentimental feelings.  And that's the goal.
*Now that I'm being more intentional with how I use this type of camera, it's possible to get some really beautiful shots.  I'm past the days of 24 exposures of bright-white flash selfies with my friends.  I'm not beyond that, because those are fun too, but you can actually get some really lovely memories out of a funny little disposable camera.

I'm going out today to buy my next disposable.  I mentioned on Instagram that if you are playing along, hashtag your photos with #disposablechallenge and we can all sort of link up and see what everyone is up to.  Also, if you have a film camera and you want to play along that way, that's fine too!  The more the merrier!

  7. I took a vacation to Southeast Asia with my best friend and he brought along a disposable camera for each of us to use; I took a photo here and there throughout the trip but he blew his all at once on a night out. They turned out to be some of our best memories of that time together and now I *always* pack one for vacation (plus one for a friend or my husband too). Love this challenge!

  8. These photos are gorgeous in such a unique way, compared to the way most of us are photographing these days (phone cameras, DSLR's). Really love this idea. Thanks for sharing!

  16. What a great idea this challenge is.
I won't try it just yet, but perhaps this summer i will.
You captured some wonderful moments that i know are dear to you.
I remember i used to use throwaway cameras all the time. I kind of miss it, having that tangable photo to hold instead of it just being on a screen.
    I'm a new follower, you rock :)

  17. Looks like a fun project! There is something about those kinds of spontaneous, slightly-out-of-focus photos that can really capture a moment!

  20. Wow! After seeing these, I can't wait to see how mine turned out. I am only half way through my film, but something about having an actual film makes it harder to just snap away...
