The Tale of the Cats

Hope's grandma got her this little curio shelf and a box full of little cats for Christmas.  When Hope was first unwrapping all of the cats, I could tell she appreciated the gesture, but didn't really "get" the gift.  It wasn't until we hung this little shelf on her wall that she got really excited about it.  She searched her room for more cats (because this shelf is a "cats only" club) and whenever we go thrifting or on trips, she's constantly searching for the perfect kitties to place in her shelf.  I know it's something she'll cherish and remember fondly from her childhood one day when she's all grown.

I see this warped little shelf filled with cats as a classic case of "sometimes you don't even know what you want until it's handed it to you".  I think we can all related with that at certain points in our lives.  You are handed something in life with a big question mark on your face, and over time you end up realizing just how special it is.  Some of my best relationships/experiences/jobs started out like this.  Life can be so funny that way.

    That is so special. Look at what grandma started. It reminds me of my brother-in-law and his newly-wed wife buying many bottles of wine and other alcohol for his sister and her husband. (20 bottles in all, I think.) They would open each bottle one by one. And in the end, got a giant wine cooler.

    my dad just made a "shadow box" as we call it, for christmas. i adore it :) but her kitties! they're oh, so cute!

    I love this! My grandma gave me a curio cabinet when I was little and I collected porcelain cats, too. I loved them! Now they are such fun little memories to have (and also a great bargaining tool... if my husband wants to bring in any more of his college toys then I get to bring in the cat collection. Stalemate achieved)

    That's so true. I didn't think I'd date my boyfriend for very long, but here we are almost 5 years later. Sometimes you have no idea what you really want or need.

    This is precious. When I was growing up, the "tooth fairy" would leave me a tiny little animal figurine for each tooth rather than money, and I have the 5th siamese from the left on the bottom shelf from one of my lost teeth :) I still love that I know I have my little collection on a shelf in my old bedroom at my mom and dad's house. I thought they were so special.

    awww, this reminds me of every summer when my family went down to St. Augustine, FL. There was a souvenir shop that sold ceramic cats just like those and I would always get one (siamese especifically, always!) I have no clue where any of them are since we left the US.
