Goals For The New Year

There's a lot of talk about goals with the new year coming, and like a lot of you, I've been thinking about my goals for 2014 and what I would like to accomplish this year.  This year I only have a few and I'm going to try really hard to stick with them.  I really overwhelmed myself with the goal-making last year, so I'm keeping it simple.

1.  Take 1 family portrait a month.  I believe I have 2 or 3 family pictures from all of 2013, so I'm putting this one first on my list.

2.  Learn to play slide guitar (particularly lap steel).  This is something I've wanted to do forever and I've actually already started, so I'm pretty pumped about this one.

3.  Focus on what I already do, and learn to do it better.  This is a big one for me.  I want to be good at the things I do... really, really good.  And I want to get better every year.

I'm definitely excited for the new year and I hope you are, too.  Do you have any extra special goals you'll be focusing on?  There are definitely lots more things I could put on my "list" but I think this is a really good start.  :)

  2. I love that instead of focusing on a bunch of new stuff, you'd like to get better at what you already do. So smart! It's so much better to do a few things WELL, than a bunch of stuff only half-way. Happy New Year!

  3. Great goals. Family portraits are a cool idea, I would also like to do this to our family, because we have so few of these photos.
I love your blog and your creativity! You are wonderful ♥
Have lots of great moments in the new year!

  5. A very good start indeed. I think more photos should be on everyone's goal list! Or at least mine for many years to come. As well as more photos, printing them and doing something with them is something I aim to do more of!

Happy New Year and good luck with all of your goals!

  7. Thank you for writing #3. I also need to focus on that... you know instead of running around in circles trying to be good at everything. :-)

  8. I have ALWAYS wanted to learn the lap steel. It's just the best sound. Trying to look for one that's not too expensive and they're not very common in Ireland. Love that resolution! You gotta post a video in 2014 :)

  10. I think those are great goals to have and it's nice that you are keeping a short list. One of my biggest goals this year is to play more (laugh, skip, jump, you get the picture). Happy 2014!

  13. This is what I try to do too. Instead of making new goals (which I do throughout the year and not just on January 1st), I try to do kind of a check-in with myself, see where I'm at with my current goals, and try to improve on those. I love that family portrait goal!

  14. Great resolutions! It'll be fun to see each family member evolve as time goes by. :)

My goals are to try more DIY projects and recipes, and to write about them on my blog. My husband's is probably to get me to move to Missouri. Happy New Year!

  17. My grandmother played steel guitar. it is the only nice memory I have of her.She had a big standing one though, not a lap one. I often wonder what happened to it. I hope you are able to successfully reach your goals.

  22. Oh, yeah, I totally agree on number 3! I always want to learn new things instead of getting better at things I already can.

  24. Happy New Year to you!
I don't often comment on blog posts, but I had to share a goal I set--one I think you may relate to: I want to make one playlist at the beginning of each month so I can keep track of my musical tastes and evolution. It could be interesting. :)
