Halloween 2013

We had another great Halloween this year.  It's been raining for days here, so we were getting pretty nervous about our Halloween parade and trick-or-treating getting canceled.  The rain cleared up just before we went out, so other than some mud and giant puddles to avoid, we stayed pretty dry!

Poesy decided she needed to be a pink puppy this year.  It pretty much came out of nowhere, but she had her mind made up and it was up to me to make that happen.  I bought some pink fleece and this peachy-tan faux fur from the fabric store and stitched up what you see here.  I traced around an existing sleeper and added a zipper to the back.  The cap was based off of this pattern (just not as pretty as theirs).  I added fur details, as well as ears and a tail and I was done!  It was actually a lot easier than I thought it was going to be!  She was happier than happy with the costume, so: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

Hope's costume was a DIY found right here.  This one was a little bit of a booger to finish up-- I have the hot glue blisters to prove it.  We decided she needed a more convincing candle, so I cut the shape of a flame from felt and hot glued fuzzy yarn all over both sides of it.  The tulle she chose was glittery, so we glittered her hair, face, etc.  You can't really see it in the photos, but she shimmered under the porch lights.  Her costume was definitely a hit in our neighborhood!

This was the year I decided we would just buy costumes from the Halloween store instead of "DIY or die", but I caved last minute and ended up finishing everything the night before.  Better last-minute than late, I guess.  ;)

Like I said, it was another great Halloween.  Poesy perfected her puppy pout and spent half of the evening pretending to eat the giant cupcake.  Hope was in absolute holiday heaven.  This kid lives for holidays and anything "special", so you can imagine what Halloween is like for her.  Plus, CANDY.

  9. I've read your blog for years and never left a comment, but I must say - It is so surreal and crazy wonderful to see you post photos of people and a neighborhood that is so close to my heart! My boys go to Rountree, and I'm a firm believer that it's probably the best place in the whole world. ESPECIALLY this time of year. <3

  40. It is so great how festive Halloween can be. Unfortunately where I live it is quite the opposite to festive. It's so sad, because Halloween seems so much fun and brings joy to the little ones. And possibly ourselves haha.

I love these photographs. They're amazing and the girls look fantastic.
