Uh-Oh... I'm In A Mom Group
This isn't one of those posts where I give you tips on making friends, because I'm not really qualified to do that. I'm not always that great at meeting new people-- it's a little hit or miss for me. I've also never been the kind of gal who wanted to be in a "mom group". I have friends with kids and all that, but mom groups have always scared me. Except, now I kinda have one and I'm singing a different tune.
I think the trick for me was finding a group of gals who I really like... who also happen to have kids. That's the thing I think I was missing for a long time-- you don't HAVE to bond with someone just because they have a kid, too. I actually would sorta run from that-- it's a lot of pressure. Now I look forward to our weekly (or bi-weekly, whatever we have time for) play dates and all the happy chaos that comes with it. (We missed you, Janae!)

Beautiful children! And what a fantastic handstand!
ReplyDeleteMy mom was in a mom group when I was growing up. I think it was one of the best things for me as a kid, especially since I was an only child. I'm still friends with some of them and all of the moms are still best friends. This may just be the beginning of something AMAZING! :)

Awwww, congratulations, Katie. No matter how you find them, friends rock and they make us happier, so yay for you!
ReplyDeleteI felt the SAME way. But I joined one anyway because none of my own friends had kids yet, and it was one of the best things I've ever done. One of my very closest friends now I would have never met if I didn't give it a try.
ReplyDeleteYou guys have adorable littles!
Very good advice about finding a group you like in general.
ReplyDeleteSo fun! I would love to find a group of moms I love. Most my friends are single and have no kids..
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a lovely group! I can't wait to have my own mom group someday. Hopefully I live near some classy ladies once I start popping out children:)

That's awesome Katie! Glad you found a group you love! I can't wait to have some little charges of my own someday. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I miss bing a mommy to tiny ones... having a teenage boy is, well you know, not that easy. He is in those teenage years where he knows everything and I know nothing. Oh so much fun. I do hope to have another one one day soon, but so far we have had no luck.. It's a little sad but I try not to let it get me down! I never had a mommy group but I hope I have one of those one day too!!! Lol!!
ReplyDeleteMuch love!!!

That looks like brilliant fun. How did you go about finding the group?
ReplyDeleteReading through comments and saw this-- i'm one of the moms in said group-- we actually found Katie! Just had an inkling that several of my friends would all get along so a friend and I rounded everyone up one day and it instantly clicked. I think sometimes you just know if its meant to be. Katie is definitely a rockstar too, so that helps :-)
DeleteThat's awesome :) I love when things happen naturally like that.
DeleteI wish I had a cool mom group to join. All the ones here are ... not my style. Still looking for a good group.
ReplyDeleteI laughed when I read the title for this post. I swore a long time ago that I'd never be in a "mom group" and have managed to avoid the proposals I've received so far. I've only been asked by people I have nothing in common with beyond the fact that we've both procreated and, like you said, you just need to find the right group of people. Your group looks pretty cool though :)
ReplyDeleteFun!! Look at those beautiful kids! Nice handstand, Hope! That's really awesome you are enjoying being in a mom group-I think the name itself is a lot for a lot of people to swallow.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun!:) They look like a lovely group of ladies.
ReplyDeletethis is the kind of ladies with babies group I could get behind! don't have kidlets yet, but when I do, I hope to connect with a great group of ladies I enjoy who happen to have children too. happy you're enjoying your lovely group of friends! :)
ReplyDeleteGood call on find people you like that also happen to have kids! That's great advice as a new mom. For some reason i was feeling all this pressure to instantly be friends with other moms who have kids my age...not so fun.
ReplyDeleteI have an 8 month old daughter and am really struggling with friendships right now. I really don't speak to or see the friends I've had forever. They don't have kids.. still going to bars all of the time... I just have nothing in common with them anymore.
ReplyDeleteI live in a very conservative area.. I live 2 miles from the Ronald Reagan Library.. so super conservative. I am tattooed, I have purple hair and piercings and no one here looks like me. I feel like I wont meet any mom's in this area :(
That last photo is the greatest thing I've seen in a long time. SO much happiness happening!

Looks like you all had a blast. Sad I missed it. What a great group of gals....and kiddos!!
ReplyDeleteI feel like mom groups could go really bad. I see some sort of housewives episode. -Hanna Marie
ReplyDeleteGood for you! :) hope you enjoy your play dates this week! X
ReplyDeleteMaking new friends in any case is hard when you get older, or at least this is the case for me. Kids make it so much more easier. I don't have kids so I can't even try to find a mama group :P
ReplyDeleteIt does sound weird to be friend with someone just because they also have kids. But when it happens because you really like them, it's all good!
ReplyDeleteFantastic group, you are all so gorgeous! And it must be so much fun for the kids to play together :)
ReplyDeleteaw so cool!

so cute, looks perfect!
ReplyDeletei TOTALLY get this post! and I am also really happy that I have a "mom group" that is really not that kind of "mom group." I feel incredibly lucky that I have a great group of friends who just happen to all have kids that love playing together. I can't imagine my mom life without it.
ReplyDeleteit's a hit and a miss for me in meeting new people. sometimes there are just those who i click with and those where it's just plain awkward. but finding connection is really important for me. sometimes that's hard to come by. these gatherings sound like a joy!
ReplyDeleteSeems like a nice and funky little group there! You all seem to have a great fun together (kiddos and moms!)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy these beautiful friendly moments together!

I used to babysit once a week for a mom group, they would have coffee and chit chat in the next room and it was so cute to see how much they all enjoyed being friends!
ReplyDeleteYou all looks so happy and beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of Hope with Alder on her lap! So glad we fell into this mom group thing, it's pretty great. I also never thought I'd be into that sort of thing. xo
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way! I have a 9 month old and stay home with her. I've been wanting to join a moms group or something because frankly it gets lonely and it'd be nice to hang with another mom but I agree it feels so awkward!
