I think it's likely that there will come a time when I look back on this season of my life and chuckle at how much I was into my tiny garden. Either that, or I will remember this excited feeling with sentiment as I look at a much larger version of what I have now. The thing with pet projects-- those projects you start as babies and nurture and obsess over-- is that they become so dear to your heart. Looking back on this tiny garden season of my life, I will also remember Poe sneaking drinks from her watering can, the way her wild hair was always half falling out of her itty bitty bun, and the way Hope would cautiously put a berry into her mouth and pucker her lips when it wasn't quite as ripe as she was hoping for. It's a little silly the love I have for this hobby... and it's also something really special.
I love how many special little memories are related to your tiny garden. Also, look at those green peppers!! Woah!

I started a tiny potted plant garden on my apartment patio and I have been referring to myself as a gardener. It has turned into such a hobby! I love it! We haven't gotten anything out of it but I am super excited for when we do

Love it. There is nothing like gardening with children, and watching little ones put all kinds of things in their mouths. :)
ReplyDeleteMy fiance and I are looking to move to NYC this summer, but when we have kids we can't wait to have a garden to grow with them.
We cut and ate the lettuce from our garden last night. It's such a rewarding feeling! Now I'm waiting for our tomatoes to turn red :)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great! I'm still waiting on our plants to start giving up their goods, but there's truly no feeling like seeing the (literal) fruits of your labor.

It is such a rewarding experience to plant something and watch it thrive, especially when you get to eat some tasty treats afterward! Good job on the garden.
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite memories as a child were from being in the garden with my dad. Thank you for sharing your precious memories with us. Such a treasure and a blessing.

Your little garden (and your little girls!) is so beautiful. I'd love to have a garden like that of my own someday, and grow things, but the last two years has proven to me that I can't cultivate an easy-care house plant without killing it, so I'm not quite sure how well my garden would grow!
ReplyDeletePoe liking her watering can is so darling!!
ReplyDeleteit is sooo special! last year we lived on a ranch and had a HUGE garden we shared with two other people...this year we live in a house with a tiny back yard and a tiny garden we started from scratch (including making the raised bed) and i have to say, this one means so much more...i love it! happy gardening!
ReplyDeleteOh, is it Blackberries? How cute :) I have to start growing on the balcony.
ReplyDeleteYes! Our blackberries are starting to come in. I'm so excited!
DeleteAww, I love what you wrote on this post. Straight from the heart. It makes me so excited to have little ones one day and create amazing memories like this. So sweet!

Hahaha. Poe licking the watering can is PRICELESS. xo
ReplyDeleteYou have peppers ALREADY? good for you. (I'm obsessed too)
ReplyDeleteGardening is one of the best hobbies there is, and ever was. Nothing silly about that! Enjoying the magick of getting your hands dirty, tasting the freshness of well, fresh veg and fruits and knowing you're feeding yourself and your family healthy, and the hard work that goes into raising a little garden. It's a magickal thing!
ReplyDeleteGrowing your own things is so rewarding - and kids absolutely love it!

labor of love! they look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love this post so much. I can relate to that feeling of loving a seemingly silly or small hobby so much :) It is really special though, isn't it? I love reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteIt is not silly at all. It is lovely and amazing and we should all be so fortunate to find a simple pleasure that brings such joy :)
ReplyDeleteI would totally wear Poe's shoes.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a wonderful thing to share with your children, what lovely memories they will have! I would like to have my own vegetable patch one day. The garden of the house i am about to move into is a little bit too small.
ReplyDeleteWell done! My little one and I love to garden together. Awesome way to establish a relationship with the Earth, nutrition & nature.
ReplyDeletePeppers are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteLooking at your garden pics really gets me excited about ours too!! I cannot wait til we start getting fruit! We've been able to pick some radishes, but those aren't as fun as strawberries, melons, & cucumbers! Love all your pics!!!
