I began by rubbing them down with olive oil. Here, you can see the color difference. After I got them totally oiled, I decided to use gold paint to add polka dots to the heels. I've been really digging the striped and floral heels I've seen around this season-- patterned heels make regular shoes double cute, if you ask me. :)
I made the dots by dipping a cap in the paint to make the outline and then I filled the circles in with a paint brush. This method worked really well since a lot of the circles had to painted on free-handed in the trickier spots.
I can't say much for the wear and tear of the dots on the heels, since I haven't gotten to wear them extensively, but so far the dots are staying on perfectly. The paint I used is great for pretty much anything.
I've been wearing them a ton since I restyled them. I love taking something in my closet that isn't being used and turning it into something I love!
Adorable!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful, I love the polka dots! I think I have an old pair of clogs at my parent's so I may have to give them a revamp now!

What a fantastic idea, Katie. I love the idea of embellishing the soles/heels of my shoes. I have a slew I haven't worn in ages - can't wait to give this a try!! xo

ReplyDeleteGreat! See, I have exactly same shoes here http://oimutsimutsi.bellablogit.fi/2012/09/14/puukkarit/ and I wondered that they are a little bit too light for me. I didn't knew about olive oil trick, so I have to try it tomorrow! Thanks a lot to you and to Lotta also!

Oh cool! I can't believe the color difference!
ReplyDeleteHey, great idea! Golden polka dots on heels that's really lovely. Must think about where I could add golden polka dots. On a bag? On a skirt with paint for fabrics? On an umbrella? Crocheted golden circles on a cardigan? Let's try!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love them!

they turned out super cute, sometimes it's hard to take the plunge but they are definitely way cuter now :)
ReplyDeleteI adore both colors, however the finished oiled version... dreamy!
ReplyDeleteoh yes yes yes yes yes!!!
ReplyDeleteThose are super cute, Katie! What kind of paint did you use? I've been wanting to paint on shoes, but not sure what kind of paint would be durable enough. I might try the Martha Stewart stuff and see how that works.
ReplyDeleteI love this makeover! I would have never thought of darkening them with the olive oil- how cool! Very cute dots :)
ReplyDeleteOF COURSE you painted your wooden clogs-so creative:)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, how cute would it be if you found a similar looking kid's shoe and painted a matching pair for Poe? Mother/Daughter outfit post!
So cute! I love the polka-dots! <3
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! They are amazing! People at Lotta should seriously consider to adding similar designs to their shoes.
ReplyDeleteWow!That is a great makeover of your clogs. They look even better in this shade of gold. Swedish wooden clogs just take my breath away, whenever i see a nice pair I want to buy them. I guess its just that they are so comfortable and stylish as well.
