What's In My Bag

My new go-to purse is much smaller than my last one.  I bought the larger one so I could haul my DSLR everywhere I went, but it really got to be a bit much.  That's the thing about big purses: at first they are big and roomy, but somehow that collection of important stuff inside grows and grows and grows.  Big purse = more space to fill. (for me, at least)  Here is what's inside my new one:
Wallet.  Of course.  I really need to find a cute new one-- I've had this one for ages and I just had a lovely ink pen explode all over one side of it.
Lint roller.  When I'm at the studio I work with a lot of yarn and thread and other messy things.  Oh, also, there are very cute dogs there.  A lint roller is a good idea for me.
Glasses.  I probably have glasses in every "what's in my bag" post.  Even when I'm wearing contacts, I like to have glasses handy.  You just never know, and, those nice police men don't like it very much when I drive without one or the other.  (kidding, I wouldn't drive without being able to see)
Headphones.  You never know when you might need these!
Makeup.  Hand-sanitizer, lip gloss, perfume, hair accessories... you name it, I probably have it stashed inside.
Measuring tape.  Actually, someone just got onto me a little for not carrying one of these at all times.  Now I do.  ;)
Sea of Bees bracelet.  Sea of Bees is my favorite.  FAVORITE.

I also carry keys and a phone in there, too, but they must not have been inside my purse when I shot this.  You can use your imagination, if you want.

So, weigh in on the great debate: big purse or small purse?  I vote medium.  ;))

  1. I just had a pen explode all over my wallet, too! I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for a new one...finding the right wallet is tough.
Also, I definitely agree, and identify with the fact that my collection of 'necessary purse items' grows with the size of my bag. My shoulders and back don't really appreciate it, so a medium-sized bag is definitely the best way to go!
(Your purse is adorable by the way!)

  2. I really love the color of this bag! So great. And a lint roller would be great to have in my bag.

  3. I hate it when my pen explodes in my bag. :( haha. anyway, I also carry a meter tape with me all the time because as an interior design student, i tend to measure furniture and stuff. haha :">

  4. I was having this debate this morning. Small, no good as I have a one year old. Big, I end up carry the contents of my house around with me, just in case. So I need a medium to fit most of the same stuff as you, but include nappies, wipes, bib, baby food, water bottles.... ok so maybe I cannot yet escape the large bag, but I am trying.

  5. What a sweet make up bag! I'm all for medium, too, something where I can fit my folders in but that also doesn't tempt me to carry around half of my household with me...

  6. I honestly have to go for huge bags, I've got so much 'stuff' to carry around. maybe it's time for a rethink though, my back doesn't feel like the back of a 21-year-old! a lint roller is a great idea too, I don't even live with my cat anymore but her hair is all over everything x

  7. Oh a lint roller is such a good idea! My tights are always covered in thread.

  8. That's the bag you had on "Weekly Wears". I absolutely love it. I wish I could have one like that :'(

  9. What a sweet post, I am a medium to large bag kind of gal :) I have a bit of an oversized sketchbook I carry around with me most of the time, so I need a larger bag to be able to have it with me at all times :)

  10. I vote medium too. If its small then its definitely not practical and if its too big it can get kind of overwhelming. I think you should have enough space for what you really need to carry around.

  11. I love that bag, Katie! I have had more than one large purse in my lifetime, but it always ends up looking too empty (unless I am traveling, then it is stuffed with reading material and snacks). Small-medium bags get my vote :)

  12. I love the bag, too! I love the scallop design. ;) I'm into bag bags coz I've got so many things (books, camera, snacks!, etc) I don't want to leave behind. I like small bags, too, but I always end up wondering how will I fit all of my things to that bag. ;)

  13. medium-size for me!! if it's too small, i can't fit everything. if it's too large, it becomes a catch-all for receipts, random pieces of paper, and is soon overrun with stuff i really don't need, making it even harder to find what i'm looking for!!

  14. I have seriously been wanting that purse badly!!! Its adorable. Your makeup bag also adorable. The deer are so sweet my 6 year old daughter Hannah loves all things deer. I saw some pillow cases on ebay like these once I almost got them for her.
The little measuring tape: I have the same one! I keep it in my bag as well. That way I can measure clothes for the kids when thrifting...but its esp. handy for measuring furniture! And it is of course worlds cuter than the plain tape meaure I used previously :)

  15. Love your makeup bag. That amount of makeup is nothing. I need to pair down to the amount you carry. Mine is out of control.

  16. Big purse for traveling, small purse for a night out with the girls, and a medium purse for every day use!! :)

  17. That purse is way too cute! I want it so bad! I am more of a small purse person if possible (if I can get away with just carrying a few necessary cards and my phone). But on a daily basis I do a medium sized purse!

  18. JUST cleaned out my purse last night so this post is perfect timing. I also vote for medium sized purses. Small is just silly, I mean I NEED to carry at least 5 lipstick option, but really not 10 like my big purse allows. Lately I've been hauling my camera around in my big purse and now the straps are tearing! I also find that trash and other random things gather at the bottom of my big purse. Guess it's time to hunt for a medium sized one!

  19. I also vote medium :)
It's really interesting how when you have smaller bag you suddenly realize how many of those "important stuff" you used to carry around are acctualy not important at all. Anyway, I am into backpacks(but really really cure ones) because too many important stuff gave me shoulder and back pain o.O

  20. Yes, I say medium! I made myself a diaper bag (which was HUUUUUGE!) when my son Caleb was born and used it as a purse for much longer than I should have. The amount of junk that accumulated in there (just because there was space) was disgusting. I've now switched to a smaller bag but think I need to make myself a medium sized one since my son is only (nearly) 2 years old and I still need to carry snacks and other random small things for him. Which, after all that rambling, is why I vote medium. :)

  21. I vote medium.
I find that with smaller purses, I always forget something because I can't fit every important thing in it :( With bigger purses, I always lose things inside the bag because I just throw it all inside!

    I love your purse.

  22. I think medium is a better idea. I'm guilty of carrying around as much as the bag will hold. I think you're doing a pretty good job at keeping it to the bare necessities. I can't say the same. he he.

  23. I love your bag! I use small bags because I don't like carrying a lot of things when I go out but I just bought a medium one that I can't wait to use!

  24. Ohmygosh. Love the bag. And that tape measure is amazing.
I am a big bag girl myself. I don't really like big bags, and I totally agree. The bigger the bag the more you manage to accumulate. But I also love having everything I need with me and also some random things that are fun to find.

  25. I love these type of posts! So fun to see what people consider the "essentials"

  26. I try for medium! I went directly from a big purse to a small one and couldn't deal with it, haha. I kept wanting to add stuff to it and couldnt, so now I switched to a medium one, and so far I'm happy. ;)

  27. Totally big for me! One of these days I will do an 'inside my bag' post, but I'm still looking for the perfect bag to fit everything into. I want to carry my DSLR everywhere, plus my iPad, phone, make-up, hair stuff, dog's lead (he comes everywhere too!) sketchbook, notebook... haha I could go on. I think I need a suitcase ;)

Adorable bag!! And I carry a tape measure too... you just never know!

  28. I love having both sizes. Unless the purse is structured, it becomes a dark hole! Things add up and get hidden at the bottom. Love that bag though, super cute!

  29. I love these posts :) I need to do another one, but here's the purse I just retired (maybe): http://dailydoily.typepad.com/peaceloveandcupcakes/2012/01/whats-in-my-bag.html I just got a HUGE purse. It's actually a lot bigger than I would want but I love the look of it. I like to carry a big purse during the day with everything I think I might possibly want and then switch to a tiny purse at night :) ♥Lindsay

  30. That you carry round a tape measure made me chuckle - I do too, though my friends think I mad. Gotta say I do love that slightly smug feeling when one of them needs to borrow it while we're out and about!

  32. I am super envious of your ability to compact...I am guilty of the diaper bag/purse combo. Its getting to be too much, when you open your wallet and find gold fish cracker crumbs...that is a sign for change! I am inspired to downsize, thanks!

  33. Your ability to put that much stuff into a small purse should be on a resume. That is so impressive!

  34. medium purses for the win! i've never really thought about it that way…maybe because the big purses are SO gargantuan now that anything else feels small by comparison. that purse is so cute too…i love the scallop detail.
