The other thing I wanted to be as a little girl looking to the future was: a hula hoop girl in the circus. I would hula and hula and hoop and hoop all day (okay, probably just between snack times) in hopes that one day I would be the best in the world! Hula hoops would twirl from my neck, arms, and legs all at once... while on fire! And, of course I would have a magnificent, sparkly ensemble, and the shiniest red shoes!
Enter: shiny red shoes.
And just for good measure, a close up of my beeeeeautiful rings:
Dress: UO
Shiny Red Shoes: borrowed from a friend
Bow: found in shoe that was borrowed from a friend and attached
to my dress with a handy little safety pin
Tights: Target (where else?)
Rings: {1. vintage ET: thrifted}
{2. awesome bug: cookoorikoo (she makes THE BEST!)}
{3. vintage turquoise ring: my mom}
{4. other ET ring: thrifted on a different occasion}
Okay, maybe I didn't need to spell out where all the rings were from, but how random is it to find two different ET rings at different places and different times?! It's a thrifting miracle, I tell you! Needless to say, I was pretty dern excited.
So now that I've shared my failed childhood dreams with you (don't feel bad, I'm pretty sure my childhood self would think this plush gig I've got going on is thumbs up), tell me: what did you want to be when you were a wee one? xoxo Katie
I love your style and hair so much! You are gorgeous too! When I was little I always wanted to perform in a Circus act but could never figure out what exactly. I really want your rings...they are neat!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any words that express how much I mcfrickin' love this outfit. Clearly, no eloquence.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little, I wanted to be my mom. I still want to be my mom.
oh katie! you look so adorable!
ReplyDeleteand i had forgotten about that ring! i love that you have it!
um yes, those red shoes are the bomb! I love love them!
ReplyDeleteYou're pretty much so cute I want to marry you ;)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little all I ever wanted for years and years, so desperately, was to be an elven warrior when I grew up. I would do archery for hours, my whole room was done up in green like Mirkwood, and I would roam around my parents 80 acres dressed in brown and green with my silver "elf" hunting knife. It was more like a dull pocket knife. I would dream about it at night and daydream about it the whole time I was awake. Sometimes I fear I may still want it deeeep down, hahaha
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a little girl I wanted to become a motor mechanic, getting dirty all day and I love the smell the car repair shops!
ReplyDeleteYour look is great as always and your shoes are very special. I love read shiny shoes, I wear some on my wedding!

ReplyDeletewhen i was little i wanted to be a gymnast.
and a horseback rider. =]
You are too cute for words with your yellow nail varnish and red shoes.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure this post just goes to show that childhood dreams really do come true. You got the shoes, after all! Loving the sweet little dress and, of course, your magnificent footwear.
ReplyDeleteDid Elsie stick that little bow in the shoe as a surprise gift?! It strikes me as something she would do. I would love to have such a sweet and thoughtful friend.
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic, PS.
I was way too scared of being singled out at the circus to ever relax enough and enjoy it!
ReplyDeletebut maybe if was able to wear a dress and shoes like yours i'd change my mind!
hehe childhood dreams are wonderful. Glad to see this outfit brought them back to you!
ReplyDeleteLove everything about it, including the yellow nails!
I LOVE your entire outfit! Perfect! One of the phases I went through as a kid was wanting be a hairstylist. Now I'm a (mostly) stay-at-home-mom and crafter and it works out pretty well for me!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to be a Disney animator. At our fifth grade graduation we had to hold up a card saying what we wanted to be and my teacher and the homeroom moms asked me to change mine to be something "more normal...like maybe a veterinarian?" (all the girls wanted to be veterinarians). My parents went to the school and defended me and made them change my card back. now I’m studying to be an art teacher so that never happens to a kid again! I have the best parents ever. :) BTW You can still be a hula hoop star. I hoop and it's so much fun! Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82lez1GYyO0 ...awesome, right!? p.s. that’s not me hooping. i wish i was that good!!
ReplyDeleteAwww!! How cute!!! Whenever something goes awful and terribly off course I always say I am running away to the circus to become a tightrope walker! :) I love your shoes they are super amazing!!
ReplyDeleteUmm.. E.T. Ring! Want! I always wanted to be an architect or interior designer. My dreams were dashed when I realized alot of math would be involved. I hated math. I am sort of an architect, I make my own miniatures and room scenes. It's quite addicting. I don't have to spend that much, or worry about math ;) I get to do this and be a mom to three, Score!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh love the red shoes!!! Hmmm... I always wanted to be a teacher or an architect, the latter because my father was. I used to draw blue prints of random businesses I would design - hair salons, houses, etc. Now, I'm a teacher! Though in funnier confessions, I wanted to be a stripper when I was six... obviously having no idea what a stripper was. I'm not sure what my exposure to it was but my sense was that they wore bathing suits all day. Obviously, I was wrong. Haha!
ReplyDeletethat dress is adorable!!! and you look so cute in those red shoes. :))
ReplyDeleteI love rings too, your collection is quite sweet. xxoo
i love your yellow nails....!
ReplyDeletewhen i was little, i wanted to be a cat farmer. also a designer/artist - looks like that one came true! when i was 4 or 5, i designed a fancy new house for my grandparents, complete with outdoor water park and a fifth floor just for their cats.... if only that one had come true too!
i love those bright red shoes! so cute!!
ReplyDelete♥ allister bee blog
oh goodness i love the ET rings
ReplyDeletethose shoes are so perfect!! i've been obsessed with red shoes recently, but i have a bad habit of just not buying bright colors bleh.
ReplyDeletei don't know if i ever really wanted to BE anything. i guess i thought a teacher was cool because my parents were teachers. i think i wanted to just draw forever
Gosh darnit your as cute as a pickle! Love the shoes! I wanted to be a dentist. That doesn't even come close to portraying how artsy I am.LOL I was just in love with my dentist. LMAO.
ReplyDeleteEEEK! I love the ET rings! :) You always look soo ADORABLE! xo! When I was little I wanted to be Madonna (seriously! Lol!) I had dreams of bleaching my hair & everything!
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to be a trainer at SeaWorld! Part of me still does.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I am so jealous of that bug ring!
those are some of the greatest childhood dreams i have heard. i really wanted to be a ballerina, but then finally accepted the fact that i am not graceful at all, ha! oh reality...
ReplyDeletelove the e.t. rings! definitely one of my favorites from childhood.
Such a cute outfit!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little I wanted to be a veterinarian. Now I just have a lot of pets. :)
Love the post period; but I have to tell you how MUCH I LOVE the E.T./Elliott ring! That is my favorite movie of all time and I love seeing cool memorabilia from it :)
ReplyDeleteHow funny, last night my little boy (8) told me last night that he is hoping to be a sword swallower when he finishes school!
ReplyDeleteyou might just make rings on every finger popular again... except 1 pinky empty?
ReplyDeleteLooking real cute Katie :) I love anything connected to childhood dreams! :)
I love this! That whole story about being a roller skater or a hula hooper was golden! Reminds me soooo much of myself when I was a kid! LOL You need a picture of roller skater/hoola hoop Katie! I have a ultra flattering pic of myself when I was 9 as a figure skater.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to be a librarian and a prostitute. Seriously, I really loved books.
ReplyDelete(ummm, my parents let me watch Pretty Woman at far too young of an age)
pretty mama!
ReplyDeletethis may seem so dumb, but when i was a girl, i wanted so badly to be a grocery store manager! haha, so silly, i know. hey, maybe someday i will get a job at trader joes!? :)
I had my career all planned out.
ReplyDeleteI was going to be a bus driver/ballerina/hair dresser.
I'd drive the bus in my tutu cutting peoples hair as I drove to my studio to swap shifts with another bus driver/ballerina/hair dresser.
I was so committed. Plans were drawn up for it all, I practiced by riding in those kids cars in tutus cutting Barbies hair. Made family take pictures of it and I stuck them up in my room for inspiration. The dream officially ended when I got in trouble for cutting a friends hair while doing my routine.
Loving your collection of rings and the colour of your nails!
Oooh! I also wanted to be in the circus at one point! Not as a hula hoop girl, but I was definitely practicing cartwheels in the garden all day long. Also I had the dream of running a restaurant. I took free napkins and plastic forks from places and thought that way I could run my whole business one day.
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit btw :)

i wanted to be a professional cheerleader with fun pom poms! or a professional baton twirler (i used to compete when i was younger) and maybe spin batons with fiery ends!
ReplyDeletechildhood dreams are funny!
This dress is so adorable - and the way you paired it with the oxfords is even cuter! Love your blog - just found it!

ReplyDeleteThis post is so lovely! And you look gorgeous in that outfit! (I don't really know which one to choose as my "chldhood dream", since I was changing my mind let's say.. every couple of days. Pretty much like I do today.)
ReplyDeleteack! i used to have that e.t. ring as a necklace charm when i was little! it's gone missing between now and then but it's still the best.

Oh, I definitely wanted to be in the circus too. Preferably doing something that involved tigers or elephants. I also had a phase in which I dreamed of being a host on QVC...to the point that I would pick up random objects around the house and practice selling them to a pretend camera and studio audience.
ReplyDeleteI would also play archaeologist all the time, finding sticks and rocks and making up stories about what they were used for in the past. Yup, I'm glad I went for that path in my adult life, rather than any of the others!
aww i LOVE your shoes
ReplyDeleteYour outfit posts are my favourite. You're so beautiful and your outfits are always so fun! LOVE!
ReplyDeleteI have the same exact turquoise ring-- from my mom also! :)
