I'm relearning to dress for summer. I have to relearn this EVERY YEAR. For some reason, I get spoiled during the cooler months, and when the heat rolls in, I still refuse to wear flip flops or go bare-legged. I'll get there. Baby steps...
Dress: vintage
Hairpiece: handmade
Belt: closet staple
Tights: Target
Shoes: Wanted
I want to point out my necklace. It's the only charm I have left from a charm bracelet that my grandmother gave me when I was younger. I wish SO MUCH that I still had that bracelet, but thankful for this little moccasin that can remind me of her. She was CRAZY (in the fun way)-- maybe I'll share more about her in a another post. :)
Oh! At the top I did say flip flops, but I actually NEVER wear them-- not even when I get used to dressing for warm weather. I do have some alternatives, though: pretty strappy sandals are great, crocheted shoes like these breathe really well, and peep toe flats let some cool air in as well. How about you? Is there anything you have a hard time wearing during summer?
xoxo. Katie
Adorable outfit! I never wear shorts. Like ever. I don't even own a pair!
ReplyDeleteyoure the most beautiful woman in the world!
ReplyDeleteYou are so pretty! And your dress. My, my, I want a dress like that. So dainty and cute! Haha.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a really hard time wearing shorts (or bearing any kind of skin, really)...even in high school! This summer I'm a little more fit and am finding that shorts can be the best thing ever!!
ReplyDeleteSummer clothes can make me feel exposed and insecure, but if I can find the right pieces that aren't TOO revealing and a little more classy, I really enjoy dressing for warm weather!
I loooove your dress & the butterflies in your hair adorable! Too cuet for words! Xo!
ReplyDeleteSo, so beautiful. Flip flops are super terrible for your feet anyhow, so it's good that you don't wear them!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I struggle with summer footwear, too. I refuse to wear flip flops! As someone else said above, they are very bad for your feet, but I also happen to have particularly hobbity feet, which are wide and long-toed and prone to blisters, so I actually avoid anything open-toed if I can (with the exception of the one and only pair of sandals I have ever owned which didn't hurt my feet somehow!)
ReplyDeleteThis summer I have vowed to wear my two lovely straw hats more :)
this dress is so cute.
ReplyDeleteevery single time I see your tattoo I let out an audible sigh. what are lucky girl you are to have that one! And also, I adore the sentiment about the necklace. I so wish I had some of my jewelry from my little girl days. Those pieces are so, so special. <3
ReplyDeleteyou should do a tutorial for this hair! It is so pretty :)
ReplyDeleteyou look gorgeous - your outfit is just so adorable! you hair is amazing - how did you roll it up like that and what camera and software do you use?
ReplyDeletegorgeous!!!

Why are flip flops bad for your feet? I've never heard this before!
ReplyDeleteFlip flops are bad because they offer virtually no support to your foot, and because they aren't really attached to your foot like a pair of shoes that ties, or hugs your foot in more places it is a lot easier to slip in them and do stuff like turn your ankle, break your leg and scuff up your knees. Crocs (shudder) also fall into that same category.
ReplyDeleteYour dress is so pretty, I really need to wear more dresses. I never wear shorts, even though we have two months of 90 degree + weather. I pretty much wear jeans and a jacket all year... They are my security blanket I guess, Ha!
Ah I love this dress, it`s beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAnd you`re not alone, I`m having the exact same problems with summer clothes...
Love,
Lotta
I want you to come to Portland and help me with my wardrobe. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you - I only wear flip flops if I'm going to the beach or pool (or if I'm traveling and staying somewhere with a questionable shower). They jut don't seem like real shoes to me!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your lacy oxfords - gorgeous!
Oh man, I HATE flip flops. maybe because my feet re so wide and they look weird in them, but they have never felt comfortable to me and I think they are ugly ugly, haha. you look super cute in your transition into summer outfit girl!
ReplyDeletexo moorea
I'm not one to wear flip flops either. I'm in Texas and wish I could wear tights during the summer... they're just too darn hot! <3
ReplyDeleteoh, man... I'm a FLOP-AHOLIC. well, actually I'm more of a shoe-aholic. I live in a beach town though and survive in a swimsuit, flops, and straw hat. Stappy sandles are good for nighttime events, but flops are perfect for daytime on the coast. Pretty outfit.
ReplyDeleteI love love love the butterflies!!!
ReplyDeleteYour friend Jenna from vintagefort.com
I love the butterflies! You make them look pretty :)
ReplyDeleteI have the opposite problem in California. I can't STAND wearing shoes! I just hate the feeling of my feet getting hot and sweaty (ew). But I try to avoid the standard flip flops and opt for cute sandals, unless I'm going to the beach.
i have a hard time leaving the tights behind too, glad to know i'm not the only one ;) and i never wear flip flops, don't even own a pair.
ReplyDeletei love this dress and your shoes are so pretty i could cry.
love the shoes <3 xxx
ReplyDeleteShorts!!! I hate my legs w/ a passion and I hate when I walk the shorts ride up my crotch! lol! Thank goodness for sundresses (for some reason I don't hate my legs in dresses, but I do in shorts!)I will say, I love me some flip flops, but I'm still wearing the flats for now..pedicure is needed first!
ReplyDeletelove this outfit!
ReplyDeleteThat dress is just adorable! And I love the butterflies!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous outfit. I also LOVE the tattoos I spy in these photos. The butterflies are cute...I want some!
ReplyDeleteDressing for summer is a big obstacle for me as well. I find shorts incredibly uncomfortable and unflattering but like Erica, find dresses and skirts work better.
ReplyDeleteI seem to get blisters from all types of sandals but flip flops are the worst offender.
Wooh love your tattoo!
ReplyDeletegreat shoes!
ReplyDeletei never wear shorts. ever. i think they're weird. i don't know why... it's like they're failed pants or something...
ReplyDeleteShorts! And flip flops. I have always despised the summer months because I haven't been super confident in my own skin and body and would rather stay covered up. After having a baby last year this has not gotten any better but I have decided lately to stand with my head held high and wear those shorts and tank tops. I just remember to accesorize (if I have time)!
ReplyDeleteSAY YES TO NO FLIP FLOPS.
ReplyDeleteFlip flops are for teenagers.. or maybe even just tweens.
&your beautiful. obviously.
i have a hard time wearing shorts! i feel like it makes my legs look even shorter and stumpier. oy vey..
ReplyDeletei'm still drooling over your Wanted shoes.
Umm, can I steal, er, borrow your entire flippin' wardrobe?
ReplyDeleteOk,thanks :-)
Love the dress, and the butterfly thingy..Yeah I'm curious about the flip flops too.

You looks so pretty and that outfit is gorgeous! I never wear flipflops either - not even during the extreme heat of the Australian summer.
ReplyDeleteKatie x
I love it! I love your little tattoos on your elbows -I'm inspired! ;) I never wear plain colored flipflops unless I go to the beach. I have 3 pairs of cute t strap sandals that I rotate if an outfit needs it. I mostly wear flats except for Sundays. I wish I could find some vintage inspired T strap flats. I passed up a pair at charlotte russe last spring and I'm still sulking. lol You are so pretty and I love your hair color -its the same as my little girls'. Your little creatures=the most adorable in all the world!!!
ReplyDeleteI also have a hard time going bare legged, but as I've been walking more and more I'm feeling a ton better about the way my legs look :)
ReplyDeletelovely lovely.
I love those shoes!
ReplyDeleteAs for flip flops (or we call them 'thongs' here in Australia..even though you guys refer to thongs as a totally different thing ;) we call those g'strings, but anyway..)I love them, I wear them maybe 3/4 of the year, as do most of the people in my town, it's kind of a surfy/beach bum town, and its warm most of the year, in summer its usually in the low 40s (celcius) so you need to be basically wearing as little as possible to survive!
xx
Not specifically but I have a hard time wearing sneakers, since I was a kid. I love shoes and sneakers are too casual for me. I've owned the same pair (for hiking or camping) for like 10 years and they look brand new.
ReplyDeleteyou're gorgeous katie! I completely know what you mean about re-learning summer fashion. I cannot get my tights off yet, but just like, i'm getting there! Didn't realise you had a back tattoo, beautiful. :-)

ReplyDeleteThis dress is so cute on you! You have THE best dress little lady! :)
ReplyDeleteI wish you had the whole bracelet too - but it is so special you have the moccasin still :)

You are so beautiful! Love your hair! <3
