Wednesday Wishes

Today I wish to live next door to a bookstore.  Not a junky bookstore, though... I'd like to live next to a grand bookstore that would house every single book I could ever want to read.  Sounds nice, huh?

We live in a cluster of three small towns.  These towns, neither singularly nor combined, can sustain a bookstore.  Our nearest (big) one is about 45 minutes away.  I know... it's sad.  Now you have the background for my wish.  ;)

(I cannot find a source for this photo-- if you know, could you please let me know?)

Happy Wednesday, friends!  xoxo Katie

  1. I'm not sure where your photo is from, but it reminds me of one of my favorite book stores in Paris- Shakespeare and Company. This flickr site has some great pictures of it if you're interested: http://www.flickr.com/photos/elsa11/3244961782/

  3. We live across a library, we just got back from there actually. And even though it doesn't have every book I'd ever want to read, it does have a lot of interesting books which make it hard to leave. And the best thing is that most books are in English and I can read them! In Osaka most bookstores and libraries just had a few shelves with English books and most of them boring. So I'm happy as can be with our little library here!

  4. I am a book newbie. I never liked to read growing up...but now I do. I just picked up Little Bee yesterday. Thanks for reminding me not to take even book stores for granted.

  5. aw, I hope you get your wish! Hypothetically, there's always e-readers where you can download a book at any time anywhere, but those aren't the same as holding a real good used book. I love that feeling.

  6. This is a great wish! I would like to own a little magical bookstore for children... but it's only a dream (one among several!)
    The photo is very inspiring!
    Have a nice day!

  9. I don't know where this picture came from but one of the kids in my painting class I took last semester did a painting of it. I don't know his name. But its funny you have the pic and showed it. I thought his painting turned out amazing.

  11. What is your library system like? If you live in such a small area then there may not be a great selection, but can you order from other libraries in your state? Here we can borrow from any other libraries in the South Eastern part of the state and I can get ALMOST anything. I know, not the same as a bookstore, but I never buy books anyway 'cause I'm so cheap ;)

  13. We had an amazing used book shop here in Bath until very recently - unfortunately the lovely little old man who ran it has passed away and now it's empty and for sale :( The same thing happended to our local music shop and the sewing machine repair shop! So sad.

On a lighter note, you can swap books online at http://bookmooch.com/

  14. I get so tired of the B&N's and BAM's, they take the love out of books and run these wonderful vintage stores out. :[

  16. I'm 100% sure that photo of the bookstore is from Shakespeare & Company, in Paris...a dream come true bookstore where volunteers from all over the world can work and SLEEP in the store...there are tiny beds hidden everywhere.

Did you -by the way- read the Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society? Think you'd love it, I know I did...:)
