The New Hair Venture

I just (finally) decided on a New Year's resolution last week.  I am going to make an attempt to "fix" my hair more.  Not just wash and blow dry, but actually style.  I've gotten so lazy about this for some reason!  So far it's going well, but I'm in the first week of it.  I'm thinking some hair inspiration is in order:

Danielle posted a cute video for milkmaid braids today, and I think my hair might finally be long enough!  I'm cursed with very thin, slow-growing hair... I find myself constantly envying girls with thick locks.  The grass is always greener, huh?  Anyway, I'll do my best to document this new venture.  Are there any other style you can recommend to me?  I definitely need ideas!  xoxo Katie

  2. I think when it comes to hair, girls always want what they don't have.
I have insanely thick hair and when it was long I was always wishing it was thinner because it was just SO MUCH HAIR! I could never do all the cute hairstyles I like with braids and details because it was just too thick!
And now that I've chopped off all my hair, I wish it was long again. :(
And now that it's blonde, I sometimes want it dark brown again.
Maybe, it's just me, but I'm just never happy with my hair situation.

But, you have lovely hair, by the way. :)
I'm looking forward to seeing how you style it!

  3. i have rather thin hair too, and in the past few years started putting an effort into 'fixing' it, and now it's effortless! i have a few secrets and tricks, number one being that i only wash my hair once a week/every 5 days. i used to get a greasy head form one day of not washing, but now i go 5 and it's fine, it's just training. secret 2, special comb for teasing. not a teasing comb! i think it's auctually a detangling comb... http://www.beautyshoppers.com/Goody-So-Fresh-Detangling-Comb-8-5-p/cg22535.htm it's the type seen here: http://www.goodyhair.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Multicultural-Combs.jpg center front. i got one in a multi-pack once and it's the best thing ever. i can tease my hair lightly, without damaging it horribly, and it's pretty much amazing.
i just watched a lot of youtube videos and then pretty much ignored half of the instructions because i didn't have enough hair! i just used the parts i liked the best and went with it.
also, heidi braids are great, especially if you make one of the braiding strands a scarf/long bit of jersey/something to make the braids thicker.
i like how your hair looks, i have issues with trying to wear my hair down, it never seems to work, and i always admire people who can wear it down and look cute.
good luck with your styling, i can't wait to see :)

  5. Oh, I should do the same! I suppose we have the same hair, very thin and also slow growing the last few years. I try to style them often but I'm usually so bored! Lately I've learned how to do my hair like a fish bone braid but it would look much better on thicker, longer hair! As you said... the grass is always greener on the other side! :-)

  8. Your hair always looks so thick! And sometimes I try to model my hair off of your pictures but I always feel like it's too thin. Now I know the secret!

I do a ton of crazy things to my hair and just try not to wash it too much. I go anywhere from 4 to 14 days between washes depending on how much time I have, how much product I've been putting in my hair, and how greasy it is. I use dry shampoo from Sephora for the days I don't want to wash it.

When it comes to curling my hair, I've found that using smaller equipment helps. When a style calls for a 2" curling iron, I use my 3/4", etc. Good luck with your new hair adventures!

  11. I also had no idea your hair was thin -- it always looks so thick! I have thin hair & have had total hair envy of you. Mine is long and thin but plentiful -- I never have any idea what to with all of it, so I usually end up cutting bangs (which I immediately hate 15 minutes later).

  12. I wish my hair looked as cute as yours when it's down!...I think loose braids at night would give your hair such pretty waves the next day...also like low pony tail with some poof:)

  13. I can't believe your hair is thin and fine--it looks SO pretty down! I have very, very, very fine hair, which feels nice I guess, but does NOT stay looking pretty. I can't even keep curl in it, so I actually wear my hair up a TON. I've started doing twists down the sides of my head (kind of like milkbraids) and then securing in a twisted not in the back. It's so easy but looks complicated and sophisticated. :)

  14. I've been thinking this same thing, I'm SO lazy with my hair, I would like to start styling it. Yesterday I did a side braid that had a french braid starting on the top at one side and wound down to the other side. It was pretty cute :) Good luck!

  15. Ha ha, it seems we are all in the same boat! I have had short hair for years and years, and this year I've decided to grow it long again, but I have no idea what to do with it! I haven't had long hair since I was a teenager, and back then it was all blue streaks and pigtails, which I'm kind of over now :)

Elsie Red Velvet's hair always looks amazing, I'm sure she could give you some tips! Actually, maybe you could persuade her to post some tips for all of us!

  16. Hello!
I've been popping in to your blog for quite a while now, but never officially "following" til now. I love your creatures and family <3

When I had longer hair (I just recently chopped it) I would part it on one side and do a french braid down the side into a pony tail. easy and out of the face so little babies cant grab :)

    two pictures of it:
