Sorry for the tardiness of Music Monday. Today's feature is Neil Young. Now, Neil Young is one of those artists who has massive amounts of music on tons of different albums, so I'm just going to focus on my favorites. Those albums would be: Silver and Gold, Harvest, and Harvest Moon. I much prefer Neil Young as a mellow artist, and don't fancy much of his rockin' stuff, but the nice part about an artist like him, is there's something for most everyone in his catalog.
I didn't grow up listening to Neil Young, I only developed an obsession about 4 years ago. I heard the song "Razor Love" on a college radio station that is VERY hit and miss, and new I had to check out his music. I was surprised to find out that Silver and Gold was released in 2000. The songs from that album are beautifully written, and are extremely reminiscent of songs from Harvest Moon (1992) and even some from Harvest (1972). I feel like Neil Young is quite the timeless artist. Even Prairie Wind, which was just released in 2005, would be a good representation of what Neil Young does best. I love him as a singer/songwriter/acoustic guitar artist... especially when Emmylou Harris is singing backgrounds for him. :)
I hope you've enjoyed this edition. If you have any thoughts, or maybe suggestions for next week, be sure to let me know! Have a wonderful evening! xoxo Katie
LOVE him. The first ever concert I was taken to as a kid was Neil Young. One of my favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mU9_Q7PJuNQ
ReplyDeleteToo bad we don't live close enough to swap records. ;)
I know! I think that would be so awesome!
ReplyDeleteConcerts I would have been taken to as a child: Ratt, Whitesnake, Motley Crue, Tesla... you get the idea. ;) It's probably good I was left with the babysitter!
I loooove Neil Young. My dad use to always listen to him when I was growing up.
ReplyDeleteI love Neil Young! My first concert was Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young when I was 10 years old, it was great! I still have one of their record albums and a Neil Young 8 track of Harvest Moon, "Heart of Gold" is one of my favorite songs, it always reminds me of my big brother! Thanks for the memories!

neil young is one of my absolute favorites. i'm so happy you featured him today.
ReplyDeletei just got a record player and i'm spending a lot of time listening to harvest and after the gold rush. (my two favorite neil albums - although harvest moon reminds me of being a kid in my parent's car:)
cheers to neil.
Absolutely love NY. My mom listened to him CONSTANTLY when I was little and never appreciated him, always criticizing her for his awful voice. As an adult, I'm so thankful my parents introduced me to great music. He's wonderful. Harvest Moon is my fave song, After the Gold Rush is my fave album :)
ReplyDeleteI love Neil Young. My parents used to play Harvest Moon in the car on our way home from my grandma's house when we were younger. For me that album evokes sleepiness in the backseat with my brothers on the longish drive from San Francisco to Fremont, and then climbing out of the car and rolling into our beds. Love.
ReplyDeleteI love Neil Young too...I remember discovering him years ago trough my father who gave me "Harvest" because at that time I was very anxious, couldn't sleep for days, felt very bad. He told me "this will help you feeling better, those songs will calm your pains".
ReplyDeleteAnd it worked :)
I love "On The Beach", too. Did you listen it?
Have a great day!
Alicia
I grew up listening to Harvest as my Dad played it a lot - actually I'm very grateful for my Dad's good taste, other favourites of his; Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, EmmyLou Harris and Simon and Garfunkel - not a bad collection, I think : )
ReplyDeletehI I LOVE BLYTHE BUT IN MY COUNTRY THEY DO NOT SELL .... WHERE DO U BOUGHT THEM ?? I LOVE THEM!! THNKS!
ReplyDeleteHe's definitely in my top ten ;) I'm another kid whose first concert was Neil Young! Plus my second grade teacher who played guitar for us every week was his #1 fan and our class play featured Neil Young songs. I love that he can rock and be mellow.
